Programs for Caregiver Support Services Through the VA
The VA has two caregiver programs:
Program of General Caregiver Support Services (PGCSS) and
Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC)

Is the Program of General Caregiver Support Services the right program for you?

Are you the caregiver of a Veteran enrolled in VA health care who is interested in connecting with other caregivers, receiving additional support from a profession care team, or looking to enhance your skills as a caregiver? This program might be just right.

There is no formal application required to enroll in PGCSS.

Steps for Enrollment:

Reach out to your facility CSP Team / Caregiver Support Coordinator or request a referral from your Veteran's provider​.

Complete an intake with the facility CSP Team / Caregiver Support Coordinator:

The Veteran will need to agree to receive care from you as their caregiver as you will be listed on their healthcare record​

Enroll and begin to utilize the supports and services offered!​

Is this the Program of Comprehensive Assistance For Family Caregivers the right program for you?

Are you the primary or secondary caregiver of a Veteran enrolled in VA health care, or is a Service member on active-duty undergoing a medical discharge? Are you someone who is also interested in education and training, health insurance (if uninsured), mental health counseling, monthly financial stipend, respite care, and other services? This program might be just right.

There IS a formal application requirement to enroll in PCAFC and both the service member or Veteran, as well as their caregiver, must meet specific qualifications to be able to participate in the program.

Download and Print the Application: VA Form 10-10CG.

Submit your application.
