What About Unemployment? 

Sometimes the unexpected happens and we find ourselves without a job when one is desperately needed. During these times, one option that may be available to you is unemployment.

If you expect a break in employment due to relocation after your transition from the military, you may be eligible to receive unemployment benefits, also referred to as unemployment insurance.

Career OneStop assists with learning how to file for unemployment benefits and more in your state as well as website links and/or phone numbers to file and learn more about eligibility, benefits, and other questions you might have. Additionally, they have a webpage that allows you to see what unemployment benefits each state may have which could help you after you find your permanent place of residency as well as specific information related to Veterans and spouses

The Department of Defense offers extensive resources regarding military compensation including unemployment information (UCX). The UCX Program provides unemployment insurance protection to ex-servicemembers of all ranks who served in the Armed Forces of the United States and meet the eligibility requirements. To apply, a service member must bring their Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214), their social security card, and their military and/or civilian job history or resume. For more information about unemployment compensation, you can visit the following website or call the Department of Labor at: # 877.US.2JOBS.
